Additional Handling, Large Package, and Over Max Limits peak surcharges will be in effect from Sept 29, 2024, to Jan 18, 2025.
SurePost, Ground Resi, and Air surcharges will be in effect from Oct 27, 2024 to Jan 18, 2025.

What’s new from last year?
Peak surcharges on large packages will be assessed for an extra week in comparison to last year. Peak will last from Sept 29 – Jan 18, in comparison to Oct 1 – Jan 13, last season.
In addition, this year, UPS is breaking these peak surcharges into three periods, unlike last year, when a single rate was effective throughout the entire peak season.
A “peak” peak season month with exceptionally high rates is bookended by two periods with rates shippers may consider more standard, though still high in comparison to the 2022 to 2023 year-over-year increases.

- Additional Handling: $7.75 (+$0.85 from 2023, +$1.25 from 2022)
- Large Package Surcharge: $84.75 (+$9.85 from 2023, +$14.75 from 2022)
- Over Max Limits: $445.00 (+35.00 from 2023, +$45.00 from 2022)
November 24, 2024 – December 28, 2024
- Additional Handling: $9.95 (+$3.05 from 2023, +$3.45 from 2022)
- Large Package Surcharge: $99.00 (+$24.10 from 2023, +$38.85 from 2022)

All Air, Ground Residential, and SurePost Packages (No Volume Requirement)
What’s new from last year?
Everything. UPS is bringing back peak surcharges on all Air, Ground Residential, and SurePost packages with no volume requirements *in addition to* the volume-based peak surcharges that are now standard.
These surcharges will be in effect from Oct 27 – Jan 18, once again indicating the extension of peak season by a week when compared to last year’s volume-based peak period of Oct 29 – Jan 13.
Like the large package peak surcharges, UPS is implementing three surcharge periods with a “peak” peak month in the middle.

Volume-Based: Air, Ground Residential, and SurePost Packages
What’s new from last year?
Structurally, the volume-based peak season surcharges are the same as last year. However, once again, shippers will incur an extra week of peak season surcharges (Oct 27, 2024 – Jan 18, 2025 compared to Oct 29, 2023 – Jan 13, 2024).
If you have shipped over 20,000 packages of combined Ground Resi, SurePost, and Air volume in any given week after October 2023, then these surcharges apply to you.
UPS will determine your “baseline” by taking your average weekly volume for the applicable service for June 2, 2024 – June 29, 2024.
If your average weekly volume from September 1, 2024 – September 28, 2024 is less than 80% of your average June volume, then UPS will adjust your baseline calculation to be based on your September volume instead of your June volume.
Like last year, there are six peaking tiers ranging from 105% to >400% of baseline volume. Surcharges are effective from October 27, 2024 – January 18, 2025.

- SurePost: $1.50 – $7.05 (+$0.15 – $0.65 from 2023, +$0.25 – $1.05 from 2022)
- Ground Residential: $1.50 – $7.05 (+$0.15 – $0.65 from 2023, +$0.25 – $1.05 from 2022)
- Next Day Air Residential: $2.65 – $8.25 (+$0.25 – $0.75 from 2023, +$0.40 – $1.25 from 2022)
- All Other Air Residential: $2.65 – $8.25 (+$0.25 – $0.75 from 2023, +$0.40 – $1.25 from 2022)
